I remember wooden pews and ratty dark-brown hymnals in those pews. I remember Ada (an elderly lady in our church) singing How Great Thou Art…acapella, out of key and with all her soul. I remember mom playing piano and Lola Redfern playing the organ. I remember a lot of things about the music in the church my family attended as I grew up.
I love our heritage of faith journaled through music. I’m also a fan of seeing old songs resurrected and given new life through a modern interpretation. Jesus Paid It All is a song where the hymn is still as accessible and meaningful today as it was in the late 1800’s. The bridge that’s been written and added to this song brings it into another dimension…an anthem and declaration of praise.
I love leading this song because it resonates deeply with me. It also has a great ability to engage people inter-generationally and bring them together as we worship Jesus.
